A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck the South Pacific nation of Tonga during a simulated tsunami warning drill Wednesday. There were no reported casualties or damage.
It was the latest in a series of quakes to hit the Pacific Ocean as about 20 nations took part in tests of a tsunami warning system.
The need for such a system in the world’s major oceans was brought home by the December 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami disaster that left more than 220,000 people dead or missing.
New Zealand and Indonesia felt quakes on Tuesday. – cnn
