Memphis pilot spots triangle UFO ‘size of a football field’ + iPhone UFO app

By | December 14, 2009 Tennesseee pilot watching departing traffic at Memphis International Airport reported seeing a triangle UFO with dull white lights on November 24, according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database.

The 8-year commercial pilot veteran said the object’s lights were not blinking or strobing, and that it was silent. The pilot stated that the object was moving at between Mach 1 to Mach 1.5.

Sizing the object up with other known aircraft in the sky at the time, the pilot believes this object was “the size of a football field.”

Reports appear to have increased on these large triangle crafts that are low to the ground. See Related Articles list for just a few recent examples. …

TN, I’m a pilot w/ based in MEM. I was watchiching departing traffic overhead, and noticed at approx. 290 degrees a diamond shape object with dull white lights travelling at approx Mach 1- 1.5 totally SILENT! MUFON Case # 20704.

As mentioned above, I was watching departing traffic from MEM looking North in the city of Cordova when I noticed a triangular shaped object travellint from East to West at approx. Mach 1- 1.5 (I have been a commercial pilot since 2001). The object had dull white lights that did not blink, had NO STROBES, and was COMPLETELY SILENT! I passed below some departing traffic, and in relation to the CRJ-200 that I was watching, it was the size of roughly a football feild. I do not drink, or use drugs…I have studied aircraft since the age of 4….I have never seen anything like this…It left me numb.

(please keep confidential) Did not even think to grab a camera…I was stuned.

On 11/24/09 at 9:45 pm, a commercial airline pilot in the Cordova area was looking to the north at departing air-traffic from the Memphis airport, when he saw what he described as a diamond-shaped craft pass directly under a CRJ-200 [Canadair Regional Jetliner]. This pilot who has asked to remain anonymous said the jet was flying at about 8000 feet and the Unknown flew under it at an approximate altitude of 6000 feet [a close call in terms of air-traffic safety regulations]. The pilot said the UFO was on a flight path from east to west and traveling at somewhere between Mach 1 and Mach 1.5. He said that it was banking slightly to the north-west as it flew under the jet, so he got a view of its underside. He described it as a perfect triangle with dim white lights at its corners and about 200 ft across, easily as large as a 747. Though it was somewhat hazy in appearance, he said he saw it distinctly enough to make out that it was a solid body with the lights attached. It had no stobe lights and was totally silent. He observed it for about 20 seconds until it passed out of sight ….

When asked if he experienced anything else strange or unusual in the immediate aftermath of this sighting, he mentioned that one hour after he saw the UFO, a helicopter flew directly over his house at about 3500 ft. altitude coming from the same direction the triangle UFO had been heading when it departed. He said this helicopter had no lights on it! This is in serious violation of FAA regulations, especially as this was within a fifteen-mile radius of the Memphis airport. He said that not even military aircraft can turn their lights off unless it is a combat situation. He did say he was able to see a dim light in the cockpit of the chopper. And he also said that it was a single prop and at least 80% certain that it was a Bell Jet Ranger which is used by not only the military but also by the police and hospitals.

Triangle or diamond? Was it 200 ft across or 360 feet? We can build aircraft around this size. The C-5 Galaxy has a 222 ft wingspan.

Reducing noise in recent years has been a focus of makers of planes, such as Boeing Co. and Airbus, and jet engines, including General Electric Co. United Technologies Corp. and Rolls-Royce Plc. – msnbc

Ah, looks like someone already had my idea of creating a UFO app for the iPhone. UFO Spot is free, but reviews say it needs some bug fixes and revisions to become very useful.  There is a lot of data out there. If they populate the database right this could be a great toy. (Not to be confused with “UFO camera SILVER” which is a free iPhone app that can add various UFOs into photos you take.)

To reply…It was triangular shaped, rounded at all three corners, with dull white lights at all three corners and is nothing known to the public. (see Fox13 news broadcast)…I have held one license or another since 1986, and have been attending college to obtain a Master’s degree in Aviation History…..This craft was beyond the technology of military aircraft (to my knowlege) and was certainly not anything that has released for public knowledge………….I’ve spent my life studying aviation, and aerodynamics…..I KNOW what I saw was not anything that could be attributed to anything known to be flying.
