Students and staff from Sheffield University were joined by Football Focus presenter Dan Walker for the ambitious attempt ahead of next week’s Pancake Day.
They were helped by local residents for The Big Flip event, which was verified by World Record officials on Wednesday afternoon.
Participants were given just one pancake and had to simultaneously flip their battered delicacy for at least 30 seconds.
Football expert Walker confirmed the successful completion of the attempt, tweeting: ‘Sheffield University has smashed the pancake tossing record.
‘All verified by Ben from Guinness #TheBigFlip.’
The university was raising money for local charities and will be donating all used frying pans to homeless charity St Vincent’s.
One delighted participant tweeted: ‘Officially a Guinness World Record holder now!! We smashed the previous record. Well done everyone!’
The final number of new world record holders was confirmed at 890, more than doubling the previous best of 405. …
